The Department of Culture, Media & Creative Industries has pleasure in inviting you to join us for THE ART OF RE-ENCHANTMENT: MAKING EARLY MUSIC IN THE MODERN AGE an evening of discussion and musical performance. 

This is to help celebrate Dr Nick Wilson’s new book with Oxford University Press, and the event will feature  Professor Simon Frith (Tovey Chair of Music, University of Edinburgh) in conversation with the author, with live music from The Society of Strange and Ancient Instruments.

Here’s the background: In the late 1960s, a new musical movement emerged championing historically informed ‘authentic’ approaches to performance, the enduring popularity and appeal of which continues today. This vibrant cultural phenomenon completely transformed the way in which we listen to ‘old’ music, revolutionizing the classical music profession.  This is the story of the British early music movement, as told in Nick Wilson’s new book, published by Oxford University Press.  The original event was postponed due to a strike –don’t let the tube strike put you off this time!
