Sky News War Correspondent to Speak at CMCI

Sky News war correspondent Alex Crawford will be speaking at CMCI on Thursday 29 March. Alex was the first journalist into Tripoli with the rebel forces last year and was awarded the OBE in recognition of her services to journalism.

The “Arab Spring” continues to reverberate, as does the plight of war correspondents, especially women, around the world. So in addition to her experiences inside Gaddafi’s Libya, Alex will be sharing her insights and experiences about war, the media, and television news.

The talk coincides with the publication of Alex Crawford’s memoire Colonel Gaddafi’s Hat, which takes its title from the on-screen interview she did with one of the rebel fighters who was wearing the Libyan leader’s iconic, gold braided headgear, which he claimed to have liberated from the late dictator’s bedroom inside his Tripoli compound. The event will take the form of an on-stage interview with Alex, conducted by CMCI’s Dr Richard Howells. Time has been set aside for questions from the audience, and the event will be of special interest to everyone in CMCI, together with researchers and students of media, journalism, communication, world politics, international studies, contemporary history, policy, and war studies from further afield. All are welcome.
