Financial Times review of Duke Ellington’s America

Last weekend, Duke Ellington’s America, the new book by CMCI’s Harvey G. Cohen, now in its second printing from the University of Chicago Press, was reviewed favourably in the Financial Times Weekend section. “Cohen sets out a wealth of biographical detail and social context on the composer’s role in America’s racial politics and his quest for artistic status,” wrote FT jazz critic Mike Hobart. “…Cohen impressively pulls these many threads together with academic rigour and a strong narrative drive.” The full review can be found here.
